When Sportswire 4000 clears the schedule, and why yesterday's games show up

Yesterday's finals sitting next to today's games, or today's slate showing up late, almost always comes down to timing: Sports Wire 4000 clears its schedule on a clock, and the STATS feed rolls over on its own clock. Daktronics publishes both. Line them up and the problem goes away.

When STATS rolls each league over

Daktronics lists these update times for the STATS feed, all Eastern:

LeagueSTATS updates
College football9:15 AM Tuesday (week flip)
Men's college basketball10:15 AM daily
Women's college basketball10:15 AM daily
NFL11:15 AM Tuesday (week flip)
NHL11:15 AM daily

Daktronics also notes STATS schedules clear at about 11:00 AM Eastern or shortly after.

The clear time Daktronics recommends

Daktronics recommends setting Sports Wire's daily auto-clear to 11:15 AM Eastern, after STATS has rolled over. The setting is under Driver Configurations. Daktronics' articles name it two ways, Auto-Refresh Data Daily At and Clear Schedule Daily at, likely depending on the software version, so look for either. If yours runs earlier than 11:15 AM, Sports Wire can clear before STATS drops the past day, and yesterday's games come right back.

Sports Wire has to be open

Daktronics is explicit that Sports Wire 4000 must be running for the schedule to clear. A machine that was closed overnight, or rebooted and never relaunched, will not clear on time.

The quick fix on game day

If old games are already showing, Daktronics' workaround is to delete them from the schedule by hand, then move the clear time later so it does not happen again tomorrow.

What this means for early tips and noon kickoffs

The rollover times matter on busy days. With college basketball updating at 10:15 AM and a clear set at 11:15 AM, check the slate after the clear on any morning with an early tip, and on football Saturdays confirm the week flipped on Tuesday rather than finding out at kickoff.

Where GameSlate fits

The hands-off option

GameSlate has no schedule clear. It reads the day's slate live, keeps a pick from the same day (finals included) on the board, and drops picks from past slates on its own, with a banner and a phone alert if your saved picks don't match today's games. It renders finished out-of-town pages in your look and writes them to the content share your show already plays, so there is no driver, schedule clear, output port or logo-file mapping to keep alive. Scores, clocks and finals update within a minute all game, and if the internet drops the board holds its last good pages and your phone gets a text with the cause. It runs on the Daktronics machine you already own and installs remotely in under an hour.
