Out-of-town scores for basketball arenas: the ribbon that runs itself
Nobody watches the out-of-town board harder than a basketball crowd in February. Conference race night, four league games going at once, a bubble that moves with every final — the ribbon around your bowl is the second screen for eight thousand people. I've run boards at Boston College and Northeastern for a decade, and hoops is where the out-of-town workflow earns or embarrasses you.
Basketball breaks the football math
Two things change when the season flips indoors. First, the bill doubles: traditional score feeds license per sport, so men's basketball is a second data package on top of football, and women's basketball can be a third. Second, the nights multiply: seven football Saturdays become thirty-plus home dates across men's and women's ball. An operator-driven workflow that was annoying in the fall becomes a nightly tax all winter.
What the automated route looks like on a hoops night
Monday, someone picks the week's slate: your conference plus the ranked games, select all, two minutes. Tuesday night the ribbon rotates every league game with live clocks; the 9 PM West Coast tip joins the rotation automatically; finals flip and hold; a weather-delayed game two time zones away shows its status honestly. The student worker who used to babysit the feed is running a camera instead.
