Daktronics out-of-town scores: every way to run them, from someone who does
Out-of-town scores are the most-watched content on a college ribbon board and the least talked about. I have run them for 10 years at Boston College and Northeastern. This is the plain-English guide to how score feeds actually reach a Daktronics display, what each route costs, and where each one makes sense.
The three ways scores reach a Daktronics board
Sportswire 4000 + Stats Perform data packages
Daktronics sells one out-of-town data pipeline: Stats Perform score feeds delivered through Sportswire 4000 into your dynamic data templates. Packages are per sport, per season, and per tier (Division I football, men's basketball, women's basketball, single or multi-sport). It is dependable data with an operator-heavy workflow: games are picked one checkbox at a time before every show, team logos come from your media library mapping, and a name mismatch puts an empty box on the board. If you run this today, the routine is familiar.
Daktronics Camino
Camino is Daktronics' real-time rendered graphics platform, showcased at venues like Gillette Stadium and rolling into flagship college installs. Its content packages can include dynamic out-of-town score templates on boards and ribbons. It is genuinely impressive, priced accordingly, and still runs Stats Perform data underneath. If your program has Camino budget and a content team, that is a different conversation.
GameSlate
GameSlate takes the opposite approach: instead of streaming data into templates, it renders finished score pages in your venue's look and writes them straight to the Daktronics content share. Show Control plays them like any other loop item. Your crew picks games from a live slate on Monday (select all, conference filters), and scores, clocks, weather delays and finals keep themselves current within a minute, every game, all season. It monitors itself and texts the crew if anything is wrong. One flat season fee per venue, under a football-only data package, every sport included. In its first full Saturday it pushed 2,121 board updates and 18,659 rendered pages across the entire FBS slate with zero failed refreshes and zero operator touches.
Which should your venue run?
- You have Camino or it's in your install contract: use its templates; you already paid for the dynamic layer.
- You have a standard Show Control room and an operator who has better things to do: that is GameSlate's lane. Same boards, same show, no per-sport data bill, nobody driving it. Full comparison vs Sportswire 4000 here.
- You love your current workflow: keep it. Bookmark this for the Saturday it drops a game in the fourth quarter.
